Trying to live life with sandy toes and laughter

Road Tripping the BC Kootenay Rockies Hot Springs Circle Route!

We packed up the Jeep, loaded on the rooftop tent and hit the road. The weather gods smiled on us, beautiful September sunny days with cooler nights – great for hot spring soaking under the stars. I used the website as a great resource for planning, although we did do the Hot spring Circle Route backward to make it our own (stops 13 to 1). We alternated camping and hotel stays. Perfect for us city folk who like to pretend we are roughing it. Some of the highlights:

  • Paddle boarding Arrow Lake on perfectly glassy water.
  • The butter tarts at Rock Creek Trading Post on highway 3.
  • Halcyon Hot Springs (we wanted to stay more than a night).
  • Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park and Lussier Hot springs.
  • Finding the best secret-ish camp ground on Kootenay Lake (it’s not secret if I tell).
  • The free BC Ferry trips across the lakes – really the scenery is spectacular.
  • Wildlife spotting – Deer, Moose, Bear and so many beautiful birds I don’t know the names of.
  • Arrowhead Brewing beer and Kicking Horse Coffee in Invermere.
  • Kutenai Chai Tea in Nelson! They have perfected spice with a touch of sweet.
  • Pedal and Tap Mucky Fries in Kimberley.
  • Our detour to end the trip (and stock up on wine) at Burrowing Owl Estate Winery.

Our last leg of @route16_ca was gorgeous. Lots of fun corners, surrounded by forest, towering mountains, and ocean. We stopped at the North Pacific Cannery in Port Edward. Totally worth it, do the tour if you visit. #motorcycleroadtrip #explorebc #travelnorthernbc #motorcycle #roadtrip #historic #britishcolumbia #route16 #suzukitu250x #motoroadtrip #heritagediscoveryroute
Our best riding day was a side trip through the Nass Valley. Rode through a landscape of lava rocks, forests, and mountains, while weaving through some fun corners, stopping at First Nations villages and hot springs. We ended up back on the Pacific Ocean, so close to Alaska. #motorcycleroadtrip #explorebc #roadtrip #roadtrippin #moto #motorcycle #suzukitu250x #nassvalleylavabeds #hotsprings #beatifulbc #travelnorthernbc #roadtrip #britishcolumbia #route16 #nassvalley #nassvalleyhotsprings #watchyourhead
Our cabin in #smithers was one of the many highlights on @route16_ca A view of #hudsonbaymountain and an adorable cabin in the woods... #explorebc #motorcycleroadtrip #motorcycle #roadtrip #route16 #travelnorthernbc #cabininthewoods
A little hazy as we left Prince George and started our journey along #route16 Met a bunch firefighters from around the world that were staying at our hotel in PG. So grateful for everything they are doing to save our forests. #motorcycleroadtrip #suzukitu250x #2000km #1200miles #northofthewall #motorcycle #roadtrip #thankyou #grateful #lovetrees
Loved the ride up to @barkervillebc I'm a sucker for historic towns. #goldrushtrail #explorebc so far we've made our way up #seatoskyhighway #duffylakeroad #route97 #cariboohighway next up @route16_ca #motorcycleroadtrip #suzukitu250x is rocking it.
Howe Sound view from the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola. Did my first ride of the Sea-to-Sky highway today. So much fun. Lots of corners but also lots of space since the hwy expansion in 2010. I remember driving this back in the 90's when it was single lanes. So much safer now. Did an amazing morning yoga class at the top. Highly recommend trying it! Classes start at 9:45 every weekday morning (taught by @northyoga_ ). Today's class was Yang to Yin... a perfect mix of flow and deep stretches for all levels #yoga #explorebc #seatoskyhighway #seatoskygondola #roadtrip #girlsthatride #moto #view #nature #yogainnature #yogaview #motorcycle
